Bridal Portrait From the '40s, Revitalized and De-Smudged

This blushing bride had some issues--mostly a big smudge partly obscuring her eye. My client wanted to know: Can it be repaired? I made.a high-resolution copy of the original and then in Photoshop I cleaned up all the dirt, dots, and smudges. This included painstakingly rebuilding her eye and the left side of her face, which was partly obscured by an unfortunate dirty smudge.  Almost done... The client and I agreed that the color now looked a bit funny. Additionally, the photo was still somewhat "soft." I converted it to B&W, punched up the contrast a bit, and used AI to bring back both facial features and dress details.  The final result:  The client was thrilled—and ordered a 16x20" print to replace the damaged original.
